A variety of activities, from the comic to the serious, will be offered during the annual Pride Week celebration March 23-31 sponsored by the Yale Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgendered Cooperative.
This year's highlights include:
* Panels on being "out" in athletics, the corporate world and academia, featuring Yale athletes, alumni, and graduate students and professors, respectively.
* A night of comedy by gay comedian Rob Nash and a world premiere by transgendered activist and performance artist Kate Bornstein.
* Talks by playwright and author Moises Kaufman on his works "Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde" and "The Laramie Project"; and by Dr. Bert Schaffner on his book "Homosexuality and the Mental Health Professions: The Impact of Bias." In addition, Cornell psychology professor Rich Savin-Williams will present a talk titled "Mom, Dad, I'm Gay: Young men and young women coming out to their parents," and Yale history of art professor Jonathan Weinberg will discuss British artist David Hockney.
* A screening of "Scout's Honor," the Sundance award-winning documentary about the Boy Scouts' Supreme Court case, and a talk by its director, Tom Shepard.
Other events will include a panel on "Homosexuality and South Asian-America"; a "Queer People of Color" film festival; a "CaberGAY" talent show; and more.
All events will take place on campus, and are free and open to the public. For a complete schedule, contact laura.horak@yale.edu.
