Senior Matt McCarthy (Winter Springs, FL) tossed a complete-game four-hitter in his final collegiate game in the victory over Brown. He struck out 10 and walked only one.

In six games last week, junior Chris Elkins (Tampa, FL) batted .381 (8 for 21). He finished the season with a team-best .374 average.

Heavyweight Crew (3-4, 1-4 Ivy)

Yale also won the junior varsity and second freshman races.

Lightweight Crew (8-0, 5-0 Ivy)

The Bulldogs captured the Goldthwait Cup for the third straight year with the victories over Princeton and Harvard. The Bulldogs also won the second varsity and first freshman races.

Yale's varsity boat is ranked first in the nation.

Women's Crew (7-2, 5-2 Ivy)

Senior Cara Denver (Vancouver, WA) ended her career in impressive fashion, tossing a three-hit shutout as the Bulldogs blanked Quinnipiac 4-0. She struck out five. All three hits were singles, and she allowed only one Quinnipiac batter to reach third base. Denver ended the season with an impressive 1.09 ERA.

Third baseman Jesseka Bartholomew (Lake Forest, CA) has been elected captain of the 2003 softball team. The announcement was made on May 1 at the post-season banquet following a team vote. Bartholomew also was named the team's Most Valuable Player. She led the Bulldogs in several offensive categories, including average (.368), hits (53), doubles (10) and RBI (34). Her 34 RBI were only one shy of the Yale record, and she will enter her senior year with 71 career RBI, which is two shy of the school record. In 144 at bats this season, Bartholomew struck out only once.

Junior Steve Berke (North Miami, FL) has been selected to participate in the NCAA singles championships on May 22 at Texas A&M. Last year Berke became the first unranked player in NCAA history to reach the quarterfinals. Berke and sophomore Dustin West (Lynchburg, VA) were selected for the doubles championship.
