Alumni reunions feature talks, tours, music and more
Both recent and longtime graduates will converge on their alma mater for two reunion weekends sponsored by the Association of Yale Alumni (AYA).
Members of the Yale College Classes of 1962, 1967, 1972, 1977, 1982 and 1987 will return to campus May 30-June 2, while classmates from the years 1937, 1942, 1947, 1952, 1957, 1992 and 1997 will gather June 6-9.
Both weekends will include the following programs:
* "President's University Update," in which President Richard C. Levin will discuss the "renaissance" currently underway at Yale and prospects for the future.
* "AYA Faculty Lectures," featuring talks by noted Yale experts. This year's offerings will include "Learning the Meaning of Words" by Paul Bloom, professor of psychology and linguistics; "Encountering Islam" by Gerhard Bowering, professor of religious studies; "Pericles' Vision for Athens" by Donald Kagan, the Hillhouse Professor of Classics and History; "Blazars, Jets and Einstein's Dream: A Hot Topic in Modern Astronomy for the Non-Technical" by Meg Urry, professor of physics and astrophysics; and "Memory Boom at the End of the 20th Century" by Jay M. Winter, professor of history.
* "A Morning at Yale," a program featuring over two dozen activities ranging from workshops to tours, lectures and special events. This year's offerings include a master class in voice, readings by School of Drama students and a talk on "Athletics at Yale," among others.
* "A Celebration of Yale Singing," a jamboree at Woolsey Hall featuring alumni from the Yale Glee Club, the Whiffenpoofs and Whim 'n Rhythm.
* "AYA Technology Fair," providing alumni an opportunity to learn about the online offerings by the AYA and Yale, as well as to "test-drive" the latest equipment from Apple and IBM.
Each weekend celebration will also include special activities sponsored by the individual classes, from panels to performances, sports tournaments and social events -- as well as a special exhibition of works by members of the Class of 1952, which celebrates its 50th reunion this year.
