Event celebrates Cuban literature
A conference celebrating the literary works that have been produced in Cuba during the past century will take place at Yale FridaySaturday, Oct. 4-5.
Titled "Cuba: 100 Years of Independence, A Century of Literature," the conference will be held in the Whitney Humanities Center, 53 Wall St. It was organized by Roberto González Echevarría, Sterling Professor of Hispanic and Comparative Literature and chair of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese.
The conference will focus on major writers of the Cuban canon, as well as more contemporary authors of the island and the diaspora. Among the participants will be professors from the U.S., Cuba, Spain, Venezuela and Germany.
The conference begins at 9 a.m. on Oct. 4 with welcoming remarks by María Rosa Menocal, director of the Whitney Humanities Center and the R. Selden Rose Professor of Spanish and Portuguese. Panel discussions will follow through 6 p.m.
On Saturday, the conference will be held from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
