Alumni will discuss 'ideal' undergraduate experience

Graduates of the University will draw on their undergraduate experiences to help shape the future of Yale College at the the 61st annual fall assembly sponsored by the Association of Yale Alumni (AYA).

Each year, the AYA brings nearly 300 alumni leaders from various constituencies to campus to consider an issue of importance to the University. This year's program, "The Yale College Curriculum," will take place Thursday-Saturday, Oct. 24-26.

Yale College Dean Richard H. Brodhead is currently spearheading the first full review of the undergraduate curriculum in three decades -- with special attention to the physical sciences, social/international studies, the humanities and the arts. Brodhead chairs a large working group that is consulting with faculty, students, administrators and alumni.

During the AYA assembly, the Dean and key committee members will brief alumni on their progress, lead them through an exercise in choosing the "ideal" course of study for themselves, and then ask the graduates to reflect in an open forum on the principles and practices they believe should guide an undergraduate course of study at Yale.

The weekend will also include an update by President Richard C. Levin on University issues of interest to alumni, as well as special meetings and social activities.
