Carlos Eire, the T. Lawrason Riggs Professor of Religious Studies & History, has been nominated for the National Book Award for non-fiction for "Waiting for Snow in Havana: Confessions of a Cuban Boy." The National Book Award is one of the premiere literary awards conferred in the United States. The award winners will be announced in New York City on Nov. 19.

Douglas W. Rae, the Richard S. Ely Professor of Organization & Management, will discuss his new book "City: Urbanism and Its End" at a "Books Sandwiched In" discussion on Thursday, Oct. 30. Sponsored by the New Haven Free Public Library, the talk will take place noon-1 p.m. in the community program room at the library; the lower level entrance is on Temple St. Rae will sign copies of the book immediately after the talk. Attendees may bring a copy of the book or purchase one on-site.
