Summer Cabaret
217 Park St.
The Summer Cabaret at Yale, New Haven's only professional summer theater, will celebrate its 26th season with four plays. The season runs June 29-Aug. 19. The schedule follows.
June 29-July 8 -- "Poor Folk's Pleasure" by Len Jenkin, directed by Glynis Rigsby, weaves together scenes, songs and dances while asking the metaphysical question "Lord, where the hell am I at?" and exploring the dark underbelly of Americana through the characters of Leroy Smiles, "the Crab Man" and the aphasic "Franky the Finn."
July 12-22 -- "The Metamorphosis" by Franz Kafka, adapted by Leslie Kramer and directed by Shannon C.M. Flynn, is the story of a person who wakes up one morning to discover he's become a cockroach. Hope struggles against alienation in this contemporary adaptation that also finds the humor in the Samsa family's nightmarish situation.
July 26-Aug. 5 -- "Beyond Therapy" by Christopher Durang, directed by Kelly Flynn, is a comic exploration of the world of relationships, from love to sex to analysis.
Aug. 9-19 -- "The Mystery of Irma Vep" by Charles Ludlum, directed by Shanon C.M. Flynn, is a melodrama about the mysterious goings-on at an English estate. Murder, intrigue and a werewolf are part of the action in this comedic drama.
