Defending champion Venus Williams is among the tennis stars who will compete in the 2000 Pilot Pen Tennis women's competition, a USTA event that will be held Aug. 18-26 at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale.
Former top-ranked player Monica Seles, a semifinalist in last year's tournament, will also compete in the competition, which is presented by Michelob Light. The event, which last year drew more than 74,000 people to the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale, features a main draw of 28 of the world's top singles players and 16 top doubles teams. Prequalifying rounds begin Aug. 18.
Special events in conjunction with the competition include Kids Day on Aug. 20, during which children are invited to participate in special clinics and autograph sessions with professional tennis players. Children can also enjoy an interactive playground on site. The Yale Athletics Department will team up with Pilot Pen Tennis, USTA/
New England and the Connecticut Association of Tennis Club Operators to offer a special Girl Scouts Night on Tuesday, Aug. 22. Other events include College Night on Aug. 23, during which employees and students from area colleges and universities with a valid I.D. receive a 33% discount on up to four middle-tier tickets.
Boxring seating, box seat packages and middle-tier packages are on sale now. Individual session seats go on sale June 5.

Yale Field is the home stadium for the New Haven Ravens, the Eastern League Double-A affiliate of Major League Baseball's Seattle Mariners.
The team, which draws more than 280,000 fans each year, began its season in April. It plays some 70 games at Yale Field through Sept. 4. Game times vary. The Ravens also host a "Kids Club" and a summer camp session.
